Senators concerned over young doctors strike

The Senators expressing grave concerns over problems and inconvenience confronted by the people due to ongoing strike by the young doctors and have urged the government to fulfill their demands on immediate basis.

Talking on point of order during Senate session here on Saturday, the Senators said that government’s threat of sacking the young doctors is unjustified and use of force against the doctors is against humanity.

Professor Khursheed said that young doctors strike is political and human problem because several people are dying due to the strike. He said that the issue should not be resolved through stick. He further said that imposition of flood tax through Ordinance is cruel act.

Senator Kulsoom Pervez said that hospital administrations and Health Secretary are hurdle in way of doctor’s demands. She drew the attention towards Shaikh Zaid hospital, Quetta which is near to close due to shortage of facilities.

Senator Waseem Sajjad said that young doctors are intelligent youths of the country while, the salaries of the young doctors is very less.

Senator Haji Adeel condemned the Punjab government for threatening the young doctors.

Senator Zafar Ali Shah (PML-N) said that Pay and Pension Commission should concentrate on demands of the young doctors. He suggested that if the government does not have money then the young doctors should be paid salaries and allowances from Benazir Income Support Programme.

Senator Sheerala Malik said that the issue is pending since last one month and the situation is causing deaths of innocent people while the government seemed indifferent from the problem.

Leader of the House Senator Nayyar Bukhari condoled with the families who have lost their love ones due to the strike.

He said that after 18th amendment Health is provincial matter and the government of Punjab should resolve the issue. He said that separate division has been set up to look after the affairs of hospitals of federation and Islamabad. He said that the federal Secretary Health is negotiating with young doctors in this connection.
